Making Your Website Rank Nationally
Search engine optimisation, or SEO, is a major part of what we do. Simply put, it’s a way of making it easy for customers to find your business when they search for a product or service online. We research key search terms for your industry, and then use reliable techniques to get your website on the first page of Google when someone types them in. Organic listings on the first page of Google get 90% of clicks, so strong SEO is important for directing traffic to your site.
But SEO is an ongoing job. User trends change, Google’s algorithm changes, and of course, your competitors are always trying to get ahead of you. That’s why we produce monthly reports on website performance – including SEO ranking – for our Digital Marketing Package clients. It means we can check how things are going and make changes when necessary. Sometimes an update is all that’s needed to get things back on track; sometimes, it’s a new website. And that’s what our client Flood Ark needed.
Flood Ark is a leading manufacturer and installer of flood barriers. They have a national client base, but their ranking would be very difficult to achieve straight off the bat. We decided to first win the ranking locally and then expand. With its ranking well-established, we were able to roll it out nationwide. Google’s algorithm gives more credit to longstanding websites, so this is the most reliable way to establish a strong ranking across the country.
With the client’s input and required updates, the decision was taken to create a whole new website. To reflect Flood Ark’s reputation for reliability and trustworthiness, and their UK wide coverage, we included more information about their BSI Kitemark accreditation, as well as more case studies of their barriers in action and testimonials from their customers. We also updated the website design to reflect current trends and improve usability, especially on mobile.
When it came to the SEO, we refocused the content around three major search terms: ‘flood defence’, ‘flood barriers’, and ‘flood protection’. Today, Flood Ark is on the first page of Google for each of these terms, ranking second for ‘flood defence’ and third for ‘flood protection’. Although SEO work is always ongoing, a strong organic ranking can last years if it’s properly supported.
We work closely with Flood Ark to continually improve their website, regularly adding to their case studies and testimonials. We’ve also stepped up their social media. Flood Ark needs to be able to respond to recent events such as flood warnings or changes in government legislation, and although our weekly blogs have always been a useful way to do that, sometimes they need to react faster. When flooding is in the news, their website and social media gets a spike in traffic, and it’s important that they are seen as a reliable source of information in the industry.
